As of June 26, 2017, the USCIS has published an updated Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status Form (Form I-485).The purpose behind the revision is to provide the applicants with clearer instructions for filling out the form and to reduce the amount of errors.
The Form I-485 is for individuals living in the United States who want to adjust their immigration status and become lawful permanent residents, which allows them to live and work permanently in the US.
The USCIS also revised the Form I-485 Supplement A and Form I-485 Supplement J (as well as each supplement’s instructions), to provide applicants with more detailed information about how to properly complete, file, and submit evidence if those supplements are applicable to their situation.
Starting June 26, 2017, there will be a 60-day grace period during which the USCIS will accept both the 01/17/17 and 06/26/17 editions of Form I-485 and Supplement A and J.
Starting August 25, 2017, the USCIS will only accept the revised 06/26/17 Form and Supplement A and J of Form I-485 and will no longer accept the earlier versions.
The applicants submitting the newly revised Form I-485 do not need to submit Form G-325A (biographic information). The biographic questions are incorporated into the new form.
The new Form also includes a list of 27 immigrant categories, which allows applicants to identify the specific immigrant category under which they are applying; and
A comprehensive, updated list of admissibility-related questions.
